 Illegal emigration: 38 people arrested and meant to be condemned for illegal emigration in Libya.

 97 migrants coming from sub-Saharan Africa to the Canaries islands have been arrested by the Moroccan authorities

 There are still mass arrivals in the Canaries islands (20,000 people since the beginning of the year) and in Italy. The European Union is called out to answer this phenomenon. The general treatment of the issue is still made around the security and humanitarian points.

 The Frontex agency wishes there were more investments from the Member States and less difficulties from the parliaments for funds. However, the Frontex agency wishes to double its staff and budget until 2010, according to the CEO, the Finnish Ilkka Laitinen.

 A new law on immigration is put into action in the UK. The «Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006" speeds up the eviction procedure based on the disturbance of public areas and allows the government to have biometric information more easily.

 Spain is more and more concerned about the migratory issue. It demands more cooperation at the European level and criticises the inefficiency of the Frontex agency. It plans moreover to organise a ministerial meeting, in September, with eight countries from the European southern border (Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, and Slovenia) on the immigration issue.

 France starts negotiations with Senegal, in particular about re-admission agreements
These negotiations aim at an agreement similar to the Spanish one. It is mostly about dissuading people from emigrating and making students, who emigrate, come back to Senegal.


 Appeal by several Italian associations, including ARCI, to close detention centres (CPTA) and cancel the Bossi-Fini law
