AEC Niger organizes a day of protest in support of Moussa Tchangari

On December 3, 2025, it will be 12 months or 365 days since Moussa Tchangari, human rights defender and Secretary General (SG) of the association Alternative Espaces Citoyens (AEC), was arbitrarily detained by the Nigerien authorities. AEC Niger is organizing a media campaign and a morning of protest and solidarity in support of the detainee. Migreurop joins AEC Niger in calling for the immediate release of Moussa Tchangari and all detained human rights defenders.

On December 3, 2024, Moussa Tchangari, human rights defender and Secretary General (SG) of the association Alternative Espaces Citoyens (AEC), was unjustly deprived of his liberty, separated from his family, and distanced from his comrades, friends, and loved ones.

To denounce this arbitrary detention, in addition to the media campaign, the AEC plans to organize a morning of protest and solidarity in support of the detainee on Wednesday, December 3. This morning of protest will take place simultaneously in different locations in Niger: Espace Frantz Fanon (Niamey), Espace Tanimoun (Zinder), Espace El Kanemi (Diffa), Kaocen space (Agadez).

During this morning, the association’s FM radio stations will be open to give a voice to those interested in expressing their support and solidarity with the imprisoned AEC secretary general.

This morning event will bring together lawyers, colleagues, comrades, friends, relatives, acquaintances, activists, and journalists, and will be an opportunity to:

  • Take stock of developments in the legal case;
  • Recall the detainee’s history as an activist and journalist;
  • Record audio and video testimonials;
  • Denounce the increasing obstacles to the work of human rights defenders and journalists (law on the protection of defenders and complementary measures).

Migreurop joins AEC Niger in calling for the immediate release of Moussa Tchangari and an end to the repression of human rights activists.
