Since June 30, 250 Eritrean citizens have been held in a detention centre in southern Libya to face forced repatriation to their country of origin. These people are asylum seekers and among them are some who have been deported from Italy to Libya without any possibility for them to seek international protection.

Today, 8 June 2010, the preliminary hearing of the trial of Joy takes place. Joy is a young Nigerian girl who has been been sentenced to six months for having participated to the revolt of Via Corelli’s center and who has revealed to have been raped by the chief officer of the center, Vittorio Adesso.

Migreurop requests the Turkish government to allow NGOs working on migrant rights to have access to all the closed centres in order to defend the rights of detainees. The network also recalls its opposition to administrative detention of migrants as well as to the criminalisation of migration that forbids respect of fundamental rights.
