Joint Statement

In recent years, Algeria’s public sphere has witnessed an alarming rise in hate speech and persistent incitement against migrants from sub-Saharan Africa. Migrants face racist rhetoric widely circulated in some media outlets and on social media, which promotes systematic violations and fuels a general climate of marginalization and discrimination. The undersigned organizations, including Migreurop, denounce this rhetoric, and call on the Algerian authorities to halt arbitrary mass expulsions (…)

We demand the immediate release of Moussa Tchangari, rights defender and General Secretary of the Alternative Espaces Citoyens (AEC) association, who was imprisoned on 3 January 2025 after a month in police custody.
Moussa Tchangari was arrested at his home on 3 December 2024 on his return from an international trip. Charged with undermining state security, criminal conspiracy in connection with terrorism and glorifying terrorism, he spent a month in police custody before being presented (…)

Public webinar organised by Migreurop

On December 9, 2022, Migreurop organised a webinar on criminalisation of solidarity with a focus on migrants in solidarity. While the issue of the crime of solidarity is now increasingly highlighted within Euro-African civil societies, little is said about the criminalisation of migrants in solidarity with their own cause, yet prosecuted for much more serious offences and sentenced to much heavier prison terms.

On 10 October 2016, Niamey welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel with pomp and ceremony. She made no secret of the fact that “security” and “immigration” were her two main concerns.
