Call to action for Commemor’Action on February 6, 2026, World Day Against the Deadly Border Regime

6th February 2026: Call to a decentralized mobilisation at the occasion of the world day of action against the deadly border regime to demand truth, justice and reparation for victims of migration and their families.

``EVERY LIFE IS WORTH MORE THAN THEIR LAWS, THEIR WALLS AND THEIR WEAPONS!

In solidarity with those who have died or disappeared as a result of state violence along migration routes and in our neighbourhoods once again, we, families and friends, will come together on 6th February on the occasion of the World Day of Commemoration and Action. The 6th February is devoted to the fight against border deaths and to demanding truth, justice and reparation for the victims of migration and their families, for victims of state racism.

On 6th February 2014, more than 200 people left the Moroccan coast in an attempt to swim to Tarajal beach, in the colonial enclave of Ceuta in Spain. The Guardia civil used anti-riot equipment to prevent them reaching “Spanish soil”, whilst the Moroccan military present watched people drown before their eyes. Fifteen bodies were retrieved on the Spanish side, dozens more disappeared, the survivors were sent back and some perished on the Moroccan side.

Commemor-Actions are both commemorations and protests that aim, collectively, to build support systems for families in their pursuit of truth and justice regarding the loss of their loved ones. Thus, every year, actions of remembrance and denunciation are organised concurrently around the world. While racist policies of sorting, controlling and repressing populations continue to cause deaths, enforced disappearances and trauma, we refuse to forget the victims of these crimes along migration routes and in our own neighbourhoods.

From 2026, CommemorAction will be of an unprecedented dimension. For the first time we are combining the cause of the families of those lost on migration routes with that of the victims of police and prison violence. This convergence is essential and urgent, as it amplifies our collective voice and strengthens our determination to demand justice and dignity for all those whom we consider victims of state injustice.

We refuse to consider that some lives have less value than others. We call for the strengthening of actions of solidarity and collective resistance, from local to international level, from sea to city, across desert and mountains.

We call for greater mobilisation against police, judicial and prison violence, and against the criminalisation of exiled, racialised and precarious people. We demand freedom of movement and settlement and equal rights. We demand truth, justice and reparation for the victims of migration policies and state crimes, and for their families. We call on all family groups of victims of migration necro-politics, solidarity groups and organisations and citizens of countries around the world, to take part in the global CommermorAction, 6th February 2026.

There are no particular specifications for types of activity or events to commemorate the day. Each group, according to its capabilities and wishes, can initiate an action, however modest it might be. However, there are important and mandatory elements for participating in CommemorAction:

  • The logo
  • Reading aloud the declaration
  • Contacting Global CommemorAction (for follow-up)

We invite you to use the following logo, along with your own logo, to underline the link between our different actions within the same movement.

We also invite you to send information concerning your initiatives (if possible before 6th February) so that we can get a picture of the extent of the collective/global participation on the CommemorAction website.

Frontières mortelles, violences racistes : nos luttes sont liées!

Who are we ?

We are relatives and friends of persons who have died, gone missing or been victims of enforced disappearance along land or sea borders, in Europe, Africa or America.
We are persons who have survived an attempt to cross borders in search of a better future.
We are citizens of solidarity who help migrants during their journey with medical assistance, food, clothing and protection in situations of danger, so that this journey may have a positive outcome.
We are activists who have collected the voices of these migrants before their disappearance, who strive to identify anonymous bodies in border areas so that they may receive a dignified burial…
We are a large family with no frontiers or nationality. A large family fighting against regimes of death imposed at all borders of the world, fighting to affirm the right to migrate, for freedom of movement and global justice for all.

The process initially arose from collaboration between the friends and families of missing persons, particularly in the Mediterranean, and activists who collect their testimonies and spread their revindications. This collaboration has been consolidated and expanded through the Missing at the Borders website, which was created to give a voice to the families of migrants and an opportunity to have their stories heard.
